Photography and Stationary

Hello hello! Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend! I have a ton of photos to go through from our trip but it’s moving week for the Fralins which means no down-time what-so-ever. BUT I do have a few things to share and first up are some photos from my best girl, Shannon of Shannon Roddy Photography. We did a test shoot with her in Cape Cod this past weekend in our wedding gown and suit. It was so much fun and I will cherish this session forever since it rained on our wedding day (cue Alanis Morrisette) and we didn’t get to do as many photos outside like we had hoped. Who said you only get one shot at wedding photos? Well, you sort of do. And this gave me a great reason to get some more use out of that gown of mine :) If I could get into it myself I’d probably wear it around the house more often. Click here to see some of the shots.

We spent some time in the woods and John, the awesomest photo assistant, had the opportunity to show his tree-climbing skills. Now that’s dedication (although she didn’t even have to ask him) :)

Something else you should definitely check out is our good friend Joshua Longbrake’s new portfolio site (Hi Josh!!!). I love his Balloon series and of course all of his other work. Apparently there is an easter egg hidden on the site somewhere. I have yet to find it.

And last but not least, our extraordinarily talented friend from college, Anna Bond, of Rifle Paper Co., designed Joshua’s adorable logo. When I get enough pocket change I’d love to have her design some personal stationary for Jeff and I. Check out her shop for greeting cards, invitations, art prints, etc. And visit your local Anthropolgie store to pick up her beautiful recipe cards to go with her beautiful recipe boxes:

Enjoy!

Love Shack

We picked up the keys to our new place yesterday!!! So excited about moving in :)

Cheers!

Here’s to you and me. And to all the lovely things I’ve been too busy to take the time to indulge in. Like writing. And reading others’ writing. And laundry (thanks Jeff!).

Since I haven’t had the time to sit down and gather my thoughts, I thought I’d do a post on the beautiful things I have come across in between the craziness. Like this wedding post my photographer Jonas Peterson. Try to look through it and NOT be enamored by the couple, the images, the love. Love is a big deal. And had this song with that title (which you can listen to in his blog post) were out at the time we got married, I totally would’ve walked down the aisle to it. Seriously though, the photographs are amazing and I kind of almost got emotional just looking through them while listening to the lyrics.

As most of you wedding photographers probably already know, Jasmine Star is conducting her creativeLIVE course this week. Yes, the entire week. And she’s shooting a wedding which will be streamed LIVE on Friday. Today she’ll be talking about the nuts and bolts of the business as well as branding. I’ve been keeping the session on in the background at work and have found myself LOLing out of nowhere in our quiet office because the woman is hilarious. I’m sure my co-workers think I’m crazy.

In other music news, Jenny Lewis (my all time fave) and her bf, Jonathan Rice, have come together to form Jenny and Johnny, an absolutely loverly singing duo. You can stream their new album on NPR right now. I’ve seen her perform several times and have come to realize that I get completely goofy over her. So I decided it would be a travesty if I couldn’t catch them on this tour and since their D.C. show is sold out I took it upon myself get in touch with their booking agent to ask him to bring them to VA. After a cutesy, semi-clever email, it was a done deal. A new date and venue has been added for Charlottesville in October! I am beyond ecstatic. And lesson learned…ask and you shall receive :)

But between getting pumped up for that and trying to learn all the lyrics to every song on the new album, the hubs and I are moving to a downtown apartment next week-ish. And I only say “week-ish” because that’s when we get the keys but will be in Massachusetts for labor day weekend. We’ll have a bit a lot of juggling to do since we haven’t even started packing yet because we originally weren’t planning to move until end of October/beginning of November. What’s life without some curve balls though? A boring one, that’s what. I mean, who needs an easy-to-manage, stress-free, low-blood-pressure kind of life? I do.

Anyone been to Boston/Cape Cod/Martha’s Vineyard/Nantucket? If so, travel advice is welcomed and in fact, seeked.

Where The Ocean Meets The Sky

I’ve been dreaming about the beach…crystal clear/blue waters, sandbars that stretch out to forever, white sand, salty sea breeze, fresh seafood and delicious frozen tropical drinks. I had the latter at dinner last night but it’s just not the same without an ocean view.

We’re fortunate enough to have access to a pool in our apartment community but unfortunately this will be the last year of that since we’re looking to move this fall. Last night we made the purchase of a reusable underwater camera that I am excited to play with. I have lots of ideas for it. And we used a different disposable underwater cam yesterday that I shot through really quickly only to regret my rapid-fire-shutter-release-finger ’cause the pool started to get crowded and I saw lots of other scenes I wished I could capture. I blame digital photography for my newfound impatience.

A few months ago we visited our friends in Ohio and I’ve just finally been able to get around to posting photos. This one of the sea anemone is one of my favorites and was taken at the Toledo Zoo. I love aquariums. Our friend Kyle is terrified of them. He was our host and tour guide when we went to the zoo and patiently waited outside of the aquarium while Jeff and I tried to run around as quickly as possible to see as much as we could before the zoo closed. Kyle is also afraid of the Statue of Liberty. But that’s a whole ‘nother story :)

Hoping to post the underwater photos soon. Meanwhile, check out these AMAZING images by Australian photographer, Alex Tipple of swimmers and surfers underwater as the waves are breaking. Seriously. Click on the link. You won’t regret it.

Side-note: anyone been on a cruise? Can you feel the motions of the waves very easily?

The Kids Go To “The Beach”

Part deux of Carrie & Jake’s wedding

He was terrified of the water. Never saw such a massive amount in all three years of his life. When they pulled up to the marina, Desmond thought his parents were going to drive straight in since they were surrounded (we were on a peninsula). He didn’t understand what he was seeing, never been to a beach, seen the ocean, played in a surf or watched the waves crash (be it little un-intimidating waves). After convincing him to finally get out of the car, he eased up to the idea of the water after he watched his sister frolic in it. He first stared at it and contemplated, then he poked around in the sand, then he inched closer and closer toward the tantalizing surf. And then all of the sudden he just sat in it. Clothes, shoes and little bow tie (remember, we were at wedding). Sat right down in the lake and looked up with the biggest grin on his face. He had overcome his fear. And quite possibly found the greatest joy.

One of the highlights was when our friend Chris, their dad, picked Lily up and marched into the water in his jeans and undershirt. Give it up for love living in the moment :)

Two If By Sea

Our friends got married yesterday at one of the most beautiful venues with a lake and mountains as the backdrop. Carrie, the gorgeous, crafty bride, made the centerpieces, sewed the table clothes, made the decorations and it was all really personalized, which to me, made everything more meaningful. Some weddings end up being a show, or for the parents, or for other reasons which is totally fine because sometimes it’s the only way to keep the peace, but Carrie and Jake’s wedding was incredibly simple and sweet in the best way possible—the most important aspect was witnessing their proclamation of commitment to each other and you could totally feel the love. It was really really really hot yesterday but luckily there was a little beach access point to the lake. A few of us stuck our feet in. Others jumped right in. Those will be for tomorrow’s post :) More on flickr.
